 PARTS OF SPEECH

1. Nouns

  • Function: Nouns are words that name people, places, things, or ideas.
  • Examples:
    • Person: Teacher, John
    • Place: School, Paris
    • Thing: Book, Car
    • Idea: Happiness, Freedom

Example Sentence: The cat sat on the mat.

2. Pronouns

  • Function: Pronouns replace nouns to avoid repetition and make sentences shorter.
  • Examples:
    • I, You, He, She, It, We, They
    • Who, What, This, That
  • Types of Pronouns:
    • Personal Pronouns: He is my friend.
    • Possessive Pronouns: My car is red.
    • Relative Pronouns: The person who called is my brother.
    • Demonstrative Pronouns: This is delicious.

Example Sentence: She loves reading her book.

3. Verbs

  • Function: Verbs express actions, occurrences, or states of being.
  • Examples:
    • Action Verbs: Run, Jump, Write
    • Linking Verbs: Is, Seem, Become
    • Helping Verbs: Has, Will, Can

4. Adjectives

  • Function: Adjectives describe or modify nouns or pronouns by providing more information about them.

5. Adverbs

6. Prepositions

7. Conjunctions

  • Examples:

    • Subordinating Conjunctions: Because, Although

8. Interjections

  • Function: Interjections are words or phrases that express strong emotion or surprise. They are often followed by an exclamation mark.
  • Examples:
